School Visits
A visit to York Art Gallery is perfect for budding artists and art historians, with its collection of paintings, pottery, drawings, prints and decorative arts.
York Art Gallery is open for schools to visit on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Self-guided visits
Schools can book a self-guided visit to York Art Gallery using our online booking form.
The following entry fees apply when making a self-guided visit to York Art Gallery:
School child: | £3.75 | Additional adult in excess of free adult to pupil ratio. | £7.50 |
There are no entry fees for any Primary or Secondary (Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four) School groups making a self-guided visit from a school in North Yorkshire. This excludes fee paying schools.

Free teacher pre-visits
We encourage teachers to carry out a free pre-visit to familiarise themselves with a site before they come with their class. Teachers are entitled to bring up to one additional adult and two children as part of a free pre-visit.

Home educators
Home educating families can visit our sites at the reduced schools rate detailed above. These rates are only available for visits made in term time during school hours.
All visits must be booked in advance by contacting schools@ymt.org.uk.
