Glass Threads: Venini, Venice and Beyond
Glass Threads: Venini, Venice and Beyond
Opening 5 March 2027
Glass Threads: Venini, Venice and Beyond presents an explosion of light, colour and creativity through the magical material of glass.
Exploring Murano glass and the work done by the Venini factory since it was established by Paolo Venini and Giacomo Cappellin in 1921, the exhibition highlights Venice’s importance to the American and International studio glass movements from the 1960s to the present day. Many thematic threads and international connections are explored, from inspiration from the natural world, the role of women, the roles of artists and designers, and the creative process.
Drawn from a private collection, the exhibition presents over 140 works by noted Italian and international designers and artists such as Carlo Scarpa, Tyra Lundgren, Tapio Wirkkala, Laura de Santillana, Richard Marquis, Dale Chihuly and Toots Zynsky, brought together to celebrate the magical material that is glass.
