York Art Gallery are delighted to have been selected as finalists for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Visit York Awards 2022.

Winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony on 3 March 2022 at York Racecourse, hosted by York Mix Radio presenters Ben Fry and Laura Castle.

The Visit York Tourism Awards aim to shine a spotlight on excellence in York’s tourism sector and reward outstanding service, innovation, quality and resilience.

Following the national lockdown last year, York Art Gallery reopened its doors in August 2020 and invited people to visit its permanent collections for free including access to the world-renowned Centre of Ceramic Art.

Alongside the free offering, the gallery welcomed visitors back with an exciting programme of exhibitions including the popular ‘Your Art Gallery: Paintings Chosen by You’, where members of the public voted for works they wanted to see on display. The Gallery also opened with ‘Our Heroes’, a tribute to the selfless efforts of NHS workers, and included a series of portraits created by artist Karen Winship. After a further lockdown over the winter, the gallery was able to celebrate its reopening with the launch of the much-loved exhibition, ‘Grayson Perry: The Pre-Therapy Years’.

The winner of the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category will be announced at the Visit York Awards 2022 ceremony on March 3 2022.
