An exciting collaboration between York Art Gallery and Mediale to bring a series of bold cultural events and activities to York and beyond, has been announced today (12 July).

Family workshops, the Teenage Art School, and ‘After Hours’ openings will be amongst the programme of events planned, which will be themed around and complement York Art Gallery exhibitions Body Vessel Clay (24 Jun-18 Sept) and Sin (7 Oct-22 Jan).

Mediale, an international media arts agency, develop, produce, exhibit and tour work from artists working around the blurred edges of digital art. York Museums Trust and Mediale jointly curated ‘Human Nature’ which formed the festival centrepiece of York Mediale 2020.

Kate Farrell, Executive Producer at Mediale, said; We’re thrilled to be partnering with York Museums Trust to deliver a dynamic public programme supporting two of York Art Gallery’s exhibitions in 2022: Body Vessel Clay and Sin. This public programme will not only drive deeper engagement and accessibility with the work but generates further creative opportunity: offering exciting digital interventions, events and workshops for young people and families whilst activating rigorous critical thinking around some of the urgent themes explored within each exhibition.

The programme of events will begin with a series of family-orientated workshops in July 2022. In August, the ever-popular Teenage Art School will welcome young people to develop their critical thinking and creativity, and in October, York Art Gallery ‘After Hours’ will invite visitors to experience the space differently, using music and workshops to inspire and entertain. There will also be the chance to take part in the programme remotely, by diving into a podcast exploring the wider context of York Art Gallery’s exhibitions. More events and activities will be announced shortly.

Jo Killeya, Head of Content, Public Engagement and Communications, said; “Our exhibitions Body Vessel Clay and Sin explore fascinating themes through a variety of mediums, and we are delighted to partner with Mediale to be able to invite visitors to playfully interrogate these subjects themselves through our programme of high-quality events, workshops and digital offers.”

The full diary of events and how to book will be announced shortly.
