This February Half-Term, celebrate creativity and craftsmanship at York Art Gallery. There’s a programme of artist-led workshops, self-led creative activities, talks and interactive storytelling for all ages, inspired by the collections and Harold Gosney: Materials and Making exhibition.
During your visit, explore the newly re-displayed paintings in the Burton Gallery and discover amazing interactives including the Not a Pot dressing up area, sensory toolkit and handling collection.

Join us this February Half-Term for an artist-led creative workshop exploring York Art Gallery’s exhibition, Harold Gosney: Materials and Making. Experiment with 2D and 3D forms to create horse sculptures inspired by Gosney’s work.
Wicked Wednesday: Story Craft Theatre

Join Story Craft Theatre for a Wicked Wednesday adventure. This fun filled session will include games, singing and an interactive story.
*A separate ticket is required for York Art Gallery, please book Gallery admission for access to the galleries.

From Sketch to Sculpture with Harold Gosney
12 noon – 12.30pm

Harold Gosney is a renowned Yorkshire sculptor and artist. Join him as he talks about the creative processes behind his work in York Art Gallery’s exhibition, Harold Gosney: Materials and Making.
Gosney has spent over 65 years creating mixed media works and the exhibition presents his expert experimentation with various types of wood and metal throughout his career, and considers the importance of drawing to his artistic practice.
A Q&A session will follow the talk, allowing listeners to ask questions.

Art Shot Talks

Join a member of our Visitor Experience team for a short, insightful talk on their favourite artwork from the collection.

All activities, workshops and talks are included in general admission, except Wicked Wednesday: Story Craft Theatre, which occurs an extra charge. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the admissions desk on the day.
Please note: The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday as usual. The temporary exhibition galleries are closed for changeover. The new exhibition, Making Waves: The Art of Japanese Woodblock Print, opens Friday 27 February 2026.
